Prologue "Woman " , "Eve " , "Adam ( human ) - these are the three names by which the woman was called during the Creation of the world described in the first chapters of Genesis . Each emphasizes a different aspect of the woman ' s personality , abilities , and manifold roles - feminine , maternal , and human . Today ' s woman , as "human" and as " Eve , " seeks to combine study , career , and family - and this is the great challenge before her , and society . The tension generated between these two triangles is the subject of the essays in Woman , Eve , Adam : Jewish Femininity between Development and Tradition ; their authors , writing from within a commitment to halakhah , use the language and concepts of traditional Judaism to examine patently personal dilemmas .
