IV Pain Management by Diagnosis and Treatment of Segmental Sensitization

Cassius , MD Contemporary pain management has shifted from symptom control to management based on the pathophysiological mechanisms of pain ( Woolf , 2004 ) . This has been associated with improvements in function and health-related quality of life as well as avoidance of therapeutic toxicity . One approach based on these principles , which will be discussed later in this chapter , is Segmental Neuromyotherapy . The clear understanding of the complex mechanisms involved in pain generation , modulation , amplification and perpetuation plays a critical role in a comprehensive pain control program .
