Abstract

Where has the current conversion policy failed ? After approximately 20 years of state conversions the number of converts from the The former Soviet Union ( FSU ) has remainded only–low approximately 25 , 000 people have converted , which comprises 7 % out of a total of the 340 , 000 Jewish-non immigrants . The average annual conversion rate stands at 1 , 800 men and women , of whom 1 , 000 go through the civilian track , and 800 through the military track , which together is less than 20 % of all the Jewish-non immigrants and their Jewish-non children who are born in Israel every year ( approximately 10 , 000 ) . This situation accelerates the rate of assimilation in Israel and places Jewish coherence and Jewish identity in this country at risk . Moreover , without the recognition of their Judaism , the ’immigrants basic rights are harmed and many of them have difficulty in fully integrating into Israeli society .
