Chapter Two characterizes typical occurrences of anachrony ( principally analepses ) in early Piyyut compositions which relate to pre - existence themes, and the contribution of such patterns to the sense of perspective . Chapter Three focuses on the remarkable transitions from the primordial past of pre - existence to the liturgical present of the actual congregational prayer situation in early Piyyut texts, including close readings of selected passages .
