Abstracts vi [ ] Self - Defense and Self - Determination in the Israeli - Palestinian Conflict : Comments on the Advisory Opinion by the International Court of Justice on the Separation Fence Case Assaf Derri The article examines the practical implications of the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice in 2004, “Legal Consequences of the Construction of a Wall in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” and especially the Court’s recognition of the Palestinians’ right to self - determination . The Court’s interpretation of this right entails a corresponding duty by the State of Israel to allow the Palestinians to implement self - determination without delay and to refrain from any action that might frustrate or interfere with realization of Palestinian independence . This interpretation has far - reaching ramifications that go far beyond the legal status of the wall .
