37 ) The Doctrine Of Withdrawal ( “ Tzimtzum” sight, that Tzimtzum preceded the revelation of the roots of judgment, or that Tzimtzum itself came about as the faculty of judgment awakened and revealed itself : as an act of withdrawal and limitation, Tzimtzum is an act of Judgment . But according to the description we have just given, based on the words of Ibn Tabul, it becomes clear that it is the power of judgment that made the regression necessary – it was the need for judgment to be revealed and to come out of the recesses of the divine being . At this point – as professor Isaiah Tishbi demonstrated many years ago – we are faced with a cathartic theme, a theme of purification, which is central to the thought of Ha’Ari . That is to say, Lurianic Kabbalah maintains that the divine being sought to purify itself of the roots of judgment, which were included in its recesses and dwelt within its pure being .
